Gather Your Supplies:

  • Pool skimmer
  • Pool brush
  • Pool Vacuum
  • Pool test kit
  • Pool chemicals (chlorine, pH adjuster, etc.) – based on test results
  • Filter cleaning supplies (refer to your filter model’s manual)

Let’s Dive In!

  1. Skimming & Surface Cleaning (10 minutes):

    • Use your pool skimmer to remove leaves, insects, and any floating debris.
    • Pay close attention to areas around the waterline where debris tends to accumulate.
  2. Brushing the Walls (15 minutes):

    • Equip yourself with a pool brush and scrub the walls and floor of your pool, particularly around the waterline, corners, ladders, and stairs.
    • This removes algae buildup and keeps your pool surfaces sparkling clean.
  3. Vacuuming the Bottom (20 minutes):

    • Connect your pool vacuum and thoroughly vacuum the entire pool bottom, removing settled dirt and debris.
    • This prevents staining and ensures optimal filtration.
  4. Cleaning the Skimmer (5 minutes):

    • Remove the skimmer basket and empty its contents into a trash can.
    • Rinse the basket with clean water to remove any debris and ensure efficient skimming throughout the week.
  5. Filter Maintenance (Varies):

    • Refer to your specific pool filter model’s instructions for cleaning procedures.
    • This may involve removing debris from the filter basket or cartridge, backwashing a sand filter, or cleaning a DE filter according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  6. Testing & Balancing the Water (15 minutes):

    • Use your pool test kit to test your pool water’s free chlorine or bromine level, pH level, and total alkalinity (TA).
    • Based on the test results, add the appropriate pool chemicals (chlorine, pH increaser/decreaser) to maintain a healthy balance.
    • Maintaining proper chemical balance is crucial for clean, clear, and safe pool water.

Remember:

  • This is a general weekly maintenance checklist. The frequency of some tasks may vary depending on your pool usage, weather conditions, and specific needs.
